supervised by Prof. Erich Schöls and Prof. Christoph Barth

mar 2022 – aug 2022
Awarded by aed neuland 2023 for Interaction Design

The project DIE GEDANKEN SIND FREI narrates about the challenges and problems that we humans will face with the technology of mind uploading. Sharing thoughts, experiencing memories from others and communicating wordlessly could become reality by using Brain-Machine-Interfaces (BMI). And so the question arises: "How do we preserve the freedom of thought?"

In the form of an interactive and multimedia presentation, the topic is presented in an explorative, playful and easy-to-understand way that can be experienced in a multi-sensory experience. Multimedia objects such as digital applications, AR, VR, films or sound installations form the core of each station. These introduce the topic and are guided by short and punchy quotes. An additional audio guide explains the subject and raises questions for the viewers. The exhibition is intended to illustrate the necessary relevance of a social discourse on mind uploading and provide important impulses for reflection in order to initiate the social transformation process towards a sustainable approach to neurotechnologies. In essence, it is about questioning the legitimacy of digitalisation based on its sheer possibilities.

Thoughts are free - who can guess them?
